Bloomfield School District has a strong tradition in the area of the arts. Students at Bloomfield Elementary School and Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School are given opportunities to show their creative talents in a multitude of forums.
The students of Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School assist the community in upgrading the local landscape. Visitors to Bloomfield are greeted by a series of murals on the commute into town from the east. The walls of a former business provide the canvas for the murals. Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School students donated their creative talents to create the murals. Additionally, the Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School Art Club has also created murals at the Bloomfield Pool and Bloomfield American Legion Post. The décor of the Santa House spreading holiday cheer to the community was also result of the creative talents of the Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School Art Club. The Bloomfield Art classes also assisted the Family and Consumer Sciences Department by creating pottery bowls and selling the bowls filled with soup as a fundraiser for the local soup kitchen. The curriculum and course offerings at Bloomfield Elementary and Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School assist students in developing their creative talents.
Bloomfield is the home to the longest, continuous running summer theatre in the state of Indiana. The Shawnee Theatre provides the backdrop for Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School’s annual “Strut-N-Fret” production. The dancing, singing, and acting talents of students have been showcased in “Annie Get Your Gun”, “The Music Man”, and “Into the Woods”.
Bloomfield Elementary and Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School students perform in three show choirs. Bloomfield Elementary students participate in “Joyful Noise”. Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School students participate in “Cardinal Song” and “Center Stage”. The show choirs often perform throughout the school year at community events like the Apple Festival and Festival of Trees. A holiday concert and spring concert showcase the hard work and talents of the musical groups. The musical groups have performed at the Washington, D.C. Cherry Blossom Festival, Orlando Disney World Music Festival, and Festivals of Music in New York City.
Students at Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School and Bloomfield Elementary are given opportunities to develop their instrumental music talents. Students in grades 5-6 are introduced to instrumental music. Students in grades 1-4 also introduced to musical concepts. Students at Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School can participate in marching band, pep band, concert band, and jazz band. Students often participate in community concerts and public presentations. Recently, the Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School Pep Band made a public performance prior to a Pacer game at Conseco Fieldhouse.
