CLASS OF 2016 and Beyond

New diploma types are being proposed for the Class of 2022 and higher.  They are still in committee as of February 2, 2015.


ACADEMIC HONORS DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS:

47 Credits
No semester average lower than C-
3.0 Grade Point Average (B average)

4 years English which may include English Composition I/II in Grade 12

Science: Biology I, (Chemistry I, Physics, or Integrated Chemistry/Physics) plus 1 additional Core 40 science

Math: Algebra I (8th grade counts if included on HS transcript and in HS GPA), Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus (6 math credits must be earned in high school); If a student took Algebra I in 8th grade, a stduent MUST take a math or quantitative reasoning course their senior year.

Social Studies: World Civilization or Geography, U.S. History, U.S. Government (1 semester), Economics (1 semester)

1 semester Preparing for College & Careers course

1 semester Computer Class

1 year P.E. or 2 years NJROTC

Health and Wellness: Summer Health or 1 semester health; OR 3 of the following: Interpersonal Relationships, Nutrition & Wellness, Adult Roles & Responsibilities, and/or Child Development & Parenting

1 year Fine Arts: Band, Chorus, or Art

Foreign Language: 3 years same foreign language

Earn a "C" or higher in all courses that will count toward the diploma

Have a grade point average of a "B" or higher

Complete ONE of the following:

  1. Earn 4 credits in 2 or more AP courses and take coreresponding AP exams
  2. Earn 6 verifiable transcripted college credits in dual credit courses from the approved dual credit list from the Higher Ed Commission (American Government, American History, Biology, Chemistry, English, Calculus, College Level Math, Physics, Psychology, or World Languages)
  3. Earn a minimum of 3 verifiable transcripted college credits from the approved dual credit list and 2 credits in an AP course and take the corresponding AP exam
  4. Earn a combine score of 1750 or higher on the SAT critical reading, mathematics and writing sections and a minimum score of 530 on each
  5. Earn an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and complete written section
  6. Earn 4 credits in IB courses and take corresponding IB exams (NOTE:  Bloomfield is NOT an International Baccalaureate school)

CORE 40 with TECHNICAL HONORS DIPLOMA

Complete all requirements for Core 40

Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following:

  1. State approved, industry recognized certification or credential, or
  2. Pathway dual credits from the approved dual credit list resulting in 6 transcripted dual credits

Earn a grade of “C” or better in courses that count towards graduation
Have a cumulative GPA of “B” or above

AND complete ONE of the Following,

  1. Any one of the options (A-F) of the Core 40 with Academic Honors
  2. Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys; Reading for Information-Level 6, Applied Mathematics-Level 6, and Locating Information-Level 5
  3. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Accuplacer:  Writing (80), Reading (90), and Math (75)
  4. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass:  Algebra (66), Writing (70), Reading (80)  

 

BLOOMFIELD CORE 40 REQUIREMENTS:

4 years English
Math: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II--six credits must be earned in high school.  If you earned the Algebra I credits in JH, then you must enroll in an additional Core 40 math course such as pre-calculus, finite math, etc.  Plus you need to consider the following:  You must be enrolled in a math or quantitative reasoning course all 4 years of high school.  

Science: Biology I, (Chemistry I,Physics or Integrated Chemistry/Physics) plus one additional year of a Core 40 science.

Social Studies: World Civilization or Geography, U.S. History, U.S. Government (1 semester), and Economics (1 semester)

1 semester Careers course

1 semester Computer Class

Physical Education – 1 year or 2 years of NJROTC

Health and Wellness: Summer course or 1 semester health OR 3 of the following: Interpersonal Relationships, Nutrition & Wellness, Adult Roles & Responsibilities,
and/or Child Dev. & Parenting

PLUS 5 additional credits from the following list:
Fine Arts: Band, Chorus, or Art
Foreign Language
Career/Technical

PLUS enough additional credits to meet the required 42 credits for Bloomfield's graduation requirements.
