Physical Education

Mrs. Susie Schulte is the Bloomfield Elementary PE teacher.  Physical education is an important part of developing a well-rounded student.  In a time when health and fitness of American children have become a significant concern, it is time to examine the importance of getting young children physically active.  The student who is sound in mind and body is better prepared to deal with the physical and mental stresses placed on them in our ever-changing society.

Students attend PE weekly for a 50-minute block.  The most important aspect of PE is to show good sportsmanship at all times.  Some of the highlights for PE are the Dodge Ball Tournament, Elks Free Throw Competition, and the end of the year Track and Field Day.  Both students and parents enjoy these events.

The following Indiana College and Career Academic Standards are used throughout the year:

  • Standard 1    Demonstrate competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.
  • Standard 2    Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
  • Standard 3    Exhibits a physically active lifestyle.
  • Standard 4    Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
  • Standard 5    Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.
  • Standard 6    Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
  • Standard 7    Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenges, self-expression, and social interaction.

Physical education at BES is much more than just playing a game. It provides students with life-long skills such as teamwork, caring attitude, positive competition skills, and enjoyment from being physically fit.
