Welcome to third grade. The teachers this year are Mrs. Stephanie Arthur, Mrs. Sheila Corn, Mr. Caleb Dunkerly, and Mrs. Erica Pemberton. Third grade is the year when students switch from learning to read, to reading to learn. Third grade is a transition grade where students learn how to complete and return homework, study for tests, and be more responsible for classroom assignments. Students will take ISTEP+ in the spring for the first time.
Third grade teachers work together to implement a cohesive curriculum where all third grade classrooms stay on the same language arts, math, science, and social studies units. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s third grade experience by reading the weekly Helping Hand, which outlines the plans for the week including assignments, tests, and other important events.
Third grade plans many exciting and educational units throughout the school year built around books such as Cactus Hotel, Ramona Quimby, Aged 8, and Molly’s Pilgrim. Special activities are planned such as pioneer day, introduction into 4-H, recycling, and community service events. Third grade is an exciting year where tremendous academic and social gains are made as students leave the primary experience and enter the intermediate level at Bloomfield Elementary.
