Welcome to first grade. The first grade teachers are Mrs. Dana Britton , Miss Stephanie Hill, Mrs. Kathy Neill, and Mrs. Sally Neill. First grade’s primary focus is teaching students to learn to read and basic math skills. All classrooms coordinate language arts, math, social studies, and science lessons using the Indiana College and Career Academic Standards as the template for instruction.
Communication between home and school is vital for first grade academic success. Students’ grades and weekly lesson plans may be viewed on the Harmony Website. All first grade students bring home nightly homework folders containing language arts and math homework, important notes, and upcoming events. The homework folders need to be returned daily to school in students’ backpacks. Classroom teachers encourage your active participation in your child’s first grade experience by becoming an integral part of your child’s learning experience at home and school.
First grade teachers are looking forward to improving students’ academic and social skills. Academically, first grade strives for students to become fluent readers, efficient in math skills, and understand basic concepts of social studies and science. The primary goal of first grade is to prepare students to become productive and respectful citizens of our school, community, and the world in which we live.
